Vang is situated right in the middle of Norway, between Oslo and Bergen, and is easily accessible from both cities. The easiest way to get to Vang is by driving your own car or by bus. There is no airport or railway in or near Vang.
Getting to Vang by bus
Vang is easily connected to Oslo, Bergen, or Lillehammer by bus. From Oslo, choose Valdresekspressen(NW160) also with Norway Bussekspress. The bus ride from Oslo takes about 4 hours and costs 300-400 NOK.
From Bergen, choose the Øst-Vest Ekspressen(NW162) bus with Norway Bussekspress. It takes about 5 hours to get to Vang from Bergen and the ride costs about 500 NOK. This bus continues on to Lillehammer which takes about 2.5 hours.
Getting to Vang by car
It’s an easy car ride from both Oslo (3 hours) and Bergen (3,5 hours). Just find road 16 and follow it all the way to Vang.
Road 16 is the old “main road” between Oslo and Bergen. During wintertime, this is the safest route over the mountains between Eastern and Western Norway – open 365 days a year.
Travelling to popular places in Vang
With 1600 inhabitants and just as many square kilometers, by car is definitely the easiest way to move around in Vang. But there are options if you choose to travel without a car.
Along road 16, which runs through Vang, there are several busses operated by Norway Bussekspress.
Getting to Eidsbugarden
Eidsbugarden, being situated in Jotunheimen National Park, is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. In the summertime, you can get to Eidsbugarden from Tyin-Filefjell by bus. This local bus corresponds with the Valdresekspressen bus which leaves Oslo at 9:00. You can also take the boat across Bygdin lake from Valdresflya. The boat takes 1 hour and 45 minutes and costs 250 NOK. This boat travel is a real hidden gem in Jotunheimen National Park.
In the wintertime, you can take the snowcat operated by JVB.
Getting to Tyin-Filefjell
Tyin-Filefjell is a center for good skiing in the wintertime. Getting to Tyin-Filefjell is easy as it is situated along the main road and you can take the bus there from anywhere along road 16.
