The Dokka Delta National Wetlands Centre is situated in Odnes on the Northern end of the Randsfjord. The centre works with the ecosystem of the Dokka Delta. In connection with this, there are marked paths along the Dokka and Etna waters to different experience-worthy places where you can go to observe birds, animals, and plants, or to discover other things in the wet environment. There is also a beautiful nature trail.
During the spring migration several species appear in large flocks. The Deltas varied wetland nature allows for a diverse nesting bird fauna. The migration in autumn starts as early as August, and lasts until the ice comes in November. In years with low water levels there is a noteworthy component of arctic waders in August and September.
Mammals like moose, badgers, deer, mink, weasels, red foxes, squirrels and hares use the delta as a permanent habitat. There have been regular sightings of lizards, smooth newts, European common frogs and toads. The Randsfjord has plenty of fish and a total of eleven fish species.
The wetland centre offers canoes and other equipment for rent. On request we can also arrange guided tours for groups in the area to experience the rich birdlife. For guided trips the wetland centre lends out binoculars and telescopes.
