The UNESCO World Heritage listed Geirangerfjord is one of the most stunning sights in Norway and arguably the most famous fjord in the world. The steep mountains surrounding the fjord climb high above the water, forming natural wonders such as the Seven Sisters Waterfall. The hiking trails and viewpoints around the fjord each offer a unique perspective of the lush landscape.
One of the most popular treks is to Skageflå Mountain Farm, a remote farm sitting high above the fjord. It’s possible to hike there from Geiranger village but start with the cruise to Skagehola for the best experience.
For shorter hikes, Westerås Farm, located up above Geiranger village, is a popular starting point. It’s just a quick walk to reach Vesteråsfjellet, a fine viewpoint. A little further along the same trail is Løsta, a higher viewpoint.
In the other direction, the trail to Storseterfossen Waterfall features stone steps built by Sherpas, plus a path that leads behind the waterfall. Back at the farm there is a restaurant where you can enjoy a meal or relaxing drink after your hike, taking in the view of the fjord.
If you’re driving, Norwegian Scenic Route Geiranger - Trollstigen passes through Geiranger. Stop by the specially designed viewpoints such as Flydalsjuvet and Ørnesvingen. Up the valley from Geiranger is Dalsnibba, a viewpoint at the top of a toll road with views back towards the village and the fjord.
