Om Vågakallen

It’s important to note that this is a very demanding hike and is not suitable for most people. It is recommended to hike this mountain with a guide or someone familiar with the trek.

Vågakallen, is one of Lofoten’s tallest mountains, towering in the sky at 943 meters above sea level. It’s an exciting and challenging hike to the top, where you’ll get a phenomenal view of the fjord and coastline as well as the two mountains it’s located between, Kabelvåg and Henningsvær.

Depending on how clear the sky is, you can see for kilometers from the top. Not only is it a great mountain to hike, but you can also climb it on the side facing Kabelvåg.

The trail begins just minutes outside of Henningsvær. If driving from Svolvær, the parking lot is just before you cross the bridge across Djupfjorden on Road 816, just off E10. This Google Maps location can help you.

It’s too dangerous to hike this trail when it is wet, especially because of possible landslides.

The trail begins on the north side of the Djupfjorden. There is then a very clear path inward on the north side of Djupfjorden. A few meters after passing the stream that leads to Djupfjord lake, take the trail to the right - you might have to search for it.

Continue hiking north, and keep to the left of the steam and then you’ll pass a very steep and grassy ridge. You’ll continue on the path through the grassy field before it becomes very rocky. At this point, it’s a good idea to put on your helmet. There are rock cleavages to traverse and possibly falling rocks. Some hikers use a rope to secure themselves.
