Om Nattfjelldalen
The Nattfjell valley sits inside the southern border of Varangerhalvøya National Park, not far from Vadsø. The trek to the end of the valley is long, but not too demanding, and at the end you are rewarded with a tall waterfall.
This area is a popular place for locals to escape to and on a clear day from the valley’s edge you can see over the Varangerfjorden and into Russia.
Veibeskrivelse
The trailhead is to the north of Vadsø.
Following Norwegian Scenic Route Varanger (Road 75) east out of Vadsø, look for the signs to Skytebane and Crossbane. Turn up this road (Markvegen) and follow it for 1.5 kilometers.
Then turn left, and follow this road north for about 3 kilometers, passing Byvannet Lake, until you reach a large parking area.
Turbeskrivelse
The trail is clear and easy to follow, but can be wet in parts. It is marked to the edge of the national park.
From the parking area, follow the road to the east leading to the pumping station.
Cross the bridge and from there follow the trail northeast through some marshy areas. The trail turns north and ascends gradually before meeting a gravel road.
Cross the road and continue on the trail to the north. Then, cross the creek and continue northwest as near the border of the national park.
Once at the border, the trail will continue to ascend, rising up along the top of the valley’s northern edge. Continue along the valley until you reach the end and the waterfall.
