Public transportationIf staying at Ruten Fjellstue, you can take the train from Oslo or Trondheim to Vinstra, and then bus from Vinstra to Ruten.
From Ruten, the cycling route continues towards Jotunheimvegen Road, running between Skåbu and Bygdin. Take in the panoramic views as you cycle along Jotunheimen Road in the direction of Bygdin. Keep an eye out for reindeer grazing in the area. After approximately 43 kilometers, you will arrive at Haugseter Fjellstue, located by Vinstervann Lake.The final part of this stretch runs along Vinstervann Lake, where you are likely to meet cows, sheep, and goats roaming freely. Here you get close to the mountain farm life, which is an important part of the Valdres culture. After approximately 12 kilometers, you will reach Highway 51 (National Scenic Route Valdresflye), where you turn left towards Bygdin and Beitostølen. You will pass spectacular mountains such as Synshorn and Bitihorn, providing excellent hiking opportunities. Please be aware of slightly heavier traffic along this section. After approximately 1.4 kilometers, you will arrive at the Bygdin Mountain Hotel on the right-hand side, located on the eastern end of Bygdin Lake.
Ruten Fjellstue is a mountain lodge offering facilities such as communal areas for socialization and relaxation, hot tubs, and a sauna. Their restaurant serves breakfast and lunch buffets, and three-course dinners. The lodge also houses a small brewery.Bygdin Fjellhotel is located at the eastern end of Bygdin Lake.
