Om Race up Oslos Bratteste

Challenge yourself on Oslo’s steepest slope climbing 407 meters over 2.7 km from the bottom of the Tryvann Ski Resort all the way to the top. This well-known course is a perfect way to benchmark your fitness, and of course, brag to your friends and family that you’ve taken on this steep and demanding route. The best in the world finish in less than 15 minutes! But don’t be discouraged; the average person does it in around 45 minutes.

Every year Oslo’s Bratteste is held here. Learn more about the race and other running races in Norway here.

Take the westbound T-bane line 1 (Frognerseteren) to the "Voksenkollen" stop.  From the T-bane station, it is about a 12-minute walk up to the Tryvann Ski Center.

There is plenty of parking located next to the Tryvann Ski Center.

The course starts at the bottom chairlift for the Wyllerløypa run and climbs straight up the ski hill called the Helveteskneika section. The second section is called Wyller.

Once you’re done the second section, you’ve already climbed 300 meters. At the top of the ski run, the trail starts to plateau. Follow the gravel trail to the right. This middle section is 550 meters of slightly downhill or flat terrain. The last stretch of the run is a 630-meter long stretch up from the chairlift station at Hyttli, right up to the top of Tryvann.

Congrats – you’ve made it!

  • Bring shoes with good tread as the trail is steep and has some loose terrain.
  • It is recommended to start at the top of Tryvann Ski Center and walk down to the bottom of the trail before challenging yourself back up.

  • There are public toilets at the Tryvann Ski Center, located at the top of the mountain.
  • Food can be purchased at the cafe at the top of the mountain.
