Situated north of the city, Grefsenkollen provides great views of the city, fjord, Holmenkollen, and surrounding forest. At the top, you will find one of Oslo's finest restaurants, serving food and drinks, with a café terrace open during nice weather (11a.m.-11p.m.) A grassy slope is located at the front of the restaurant where you can rest and take in the view. The top of Grefsenkollen can also be your starting point for longer trips into the forest.
There are many ways to get to the top, so this route is just a suggestion.
There are several ways to reach the beginning of the trails from central Oslo, all taking around half an hour. Some suggestions:
- Take bus 31 (Grorud T) from Jernbanetorget to the stop "Årvoll senter". Change to bus 25 (Majorstuen) and hop off at "Grefsenkollveien".
- Take tram 12 (Kjelsås) from Jernbanetorget to "Grefsen stadion". Switch to bus 25 (Lørenskog stasjon) and jump off at "Grefsenlia".
- Take T-bane line 5 (Ringen) to Storo and switch to bus 56 (Solemskogen) to "Akebakken". On Sundays, bus 56B runs all the way to the top of Grefsenkollen.
Follow Akebakkeskogen to the end and you'll find the wide gravel trail that winds to the top. There are occasional red (ski trail) signs pointing the way.
From the top, it is a short walk further north to Trollvann lake, where you can enjoy peaceful nature.
You might see people walking up and down the road as well, but it is not very pleasant or safe.
