Bukkekjerka Utsiktspunkt

Visit a Sami cultural heritage site and curious rock formation

Viktig informasjon

Om Bukkekjerka

An impressive rock formation on the western side of Andøya Island, Bukkekjerka offers both a cultural experience and an opportunity to take a break and relax. Bukkekjerka is a former Sami sacrificial site and a protected landmark. The name means “crevice rock”.

The southern wall of Bukkekjerka is an excellent place for a meal and a rest. Otherwise, trek to the top of the rock formation and enjoy the view of the ocean and the mountains from the small bench. You can also explore the peninsula and the two small lighthouses.

The service building by the parking lot is also an interesting feature. It was designed by Morfeus Arkitekter and completed in the summer of 2018. The complex includes a main area with all-glass restrooms, a smaller construction leading to the lighthouses, a barbecue area, and concrete benches for wedding ceremonies.

A thriving fishing village known as Børvågen once stood nearby. The village was destroyed by a storm in 1879. Today, there are remnants of Iron Age buildings and burial mounds.
