- Destinasjon: Vesterålen

- Varighet: 2-4 timer
Gavltinden is the second-highest peak on Andøya Island. The top delivers panoramic views over the southern part of the island, as well as the surrounding fjords and other islands of the Vesterålen archipelago.
The entire trek to Gavltinden is uphill, but a gradual ascent ensures the trail is not too demanding. The ridge from Grønnlitinden to the summit is quite exposed with a steep drop, so keep a good distance from the edge along that section of the trail.
Early in the hiking season you may encounter some snow and the path can get slippery. Walk with care and check with locals if you want to avoid hiking across any snow.
Gavltinden is located at the southern end of Andøya Island.
From Road 974, at the southern end of Norwegian Scenic Route Andøya, turn onto Road 973 and follow it to Skjoldehamn.
Park by the church. The trail starts across the road.
From the roadside, follow the dirt road which winds up the mountain.
The road ends by the treeline and the route continues along a dirt trail. The trail is occasionally marked by stones with a red T.
Continue to ascend up the bare and rocky mountainside towards Grønnlitinden, at the edge of the mountain ridge.
Keep a good distance from the edge as you follow the ridge west towards Grønnlitinden. The summit itself is quite large with plenty of room to safely relax and enjoy the views.
Bring water as there aren’t any water sources on the trail.
