Om Haugastøl to Syndinstøga
The tracks going from Haugastøl to Syndinstøga is usually in top shape, as they are groomed regularly. The route starts off below the tree line, but after the initial 150 height meter climb, the landscape opens up and you will quick be gaining kilometers as the terrain flattens. You will have a great view with the tall peaks of Jotunheimen to the north, and eventually the lake Syndin and old farm areas to the south. This is a highly trafficked route in the high seasons, especially around easter. Suitable for children with some previous skiing experience.
The parking is located about 4 km from the main road that passes through Vang. Exit road E16 noe kilometer eas of Vang center by following the signs to Helin. Drive 750 meter on Burmavegen before making a right onto Helinvegen. The road up to the parking spot has a toll fee, NOK 70 in 2019. After the toll station, continue until you see the tracks and the road turns left. You are now at the parking spot.
Vang is easily connected to Oslo, Bergen, or Lillehammer by bus. From Oslo, choose Valdresekspressen (NW160) with NOR-WAY Bussekspress. The bus ride from Oslo takes about 4 hours and costs 300-400 NOK.
From Bergen, choose the Øst-Vest Ekspressen (NW162) bus with Norway Bussekspress. It takes about 5 hours to get to Vang from Bergen and the ride costs about 500 NOK. This bus continues on to Lillehammer which takes about 2.5 hours.
The trip starts by a parking spot located along Helinvegen, just before entering the newly built cabin area Haugastøl. The route starts off with an easy climb lasting about 3 km. Once above the treeline, you will mostly be crossing swap areas, with only a few height meters climb, until you reach a mountain farm area called Nordre Syndin. Syndin is also the name of the lake you will be skiing around. Flat easy terrain describes the landscape ahead of you for the remaining 6 km.
