Om Lake Isteren
This guide provides suggestions on what to explore during a multi-day paddling trip on Lake Isteren.
This adventure assumes that have started at Femund Canoe Camp earlier that day or the day before or are beginning the trip from Tømmervika.
If you are starting the trip from Tømmervika, without paddling earlier, you can park at Tømmervika Alternatively, you can get dropped off by transportation provided by Femund Canoe Camp.
After getting to Tømmervika, continue paddling north to explore Lake Isteren. Most canoers are able to paddle at 3 km per hour, however, this depends on the weather, how much gear is in your canoe, and your overall skill. Seldom do canoers paddle many hours in a row. On average families are able to cover 10 to 15 km a day, and young active adults can cover at least 15 km.
There are many places to fish for trout and see wildlife such as moose, reindeer, beavers and various birds. Make sure to explore small islands, sandy beaches, and camping spots. In the nature reserve on the eastern side of the lake, there are three mountains: Mount Nordre Bjørneberget, Mount Søndre Bjørneberget, and Mount Bottølen. All three can be easily hiked using maps on Outtt, despite no marked paths.
The lake water is clean enough to drink but, use your own discretion.
Pitch a tent. In Norway, you can camp nearly everywhere, read more about the Right to Roam law.
