Om Lyngsdalen to Dalbotn

Lyngsdalen is the gateway to the highest mountains in the Lyngen Alps. This includes he highest mountain in Troms county, Jiehkkevárri, at 1,834 meters above sea level. The nature in the valley is majestic, and in Dalbotn you can see three glaciers at the same time.

The Lyngsdalselva river is a strong glacial river, and the flow of water is especially powerful on hot summer days and warm, rainy days in the autumn. The river deposits a lot of sand from the glaciers and moraines on the shoreline and in the sea.

The trailhead is located in Furuflaten, 16 kilometers south of Lyngseidet.

Park at Furustua, on the left-hand side of the road coming from Lyngseidet.

This is an easy valley to walk in with good trails.

From the Furustua cabin, follow the main road around 300 meters north towards the Lyngsdalselva river.

Just before the bridge, turn left and follow the marked forest road along the football field. After about 1.5 kilometers you will reach a bridge over the river.

Cross the bridge and follow the trail alongside the river and up the valley 6 kilometers to the Lyngsdalshytta Cabin.

A bridge has been built across the river by the Lyngsdalshytta Cabin, so you can walk over and back down the valley along the other side. Alternatively, return along the same route you took up the valley.

Warning: Some of the paths lead near glacial rivers. Don’t attempt to cross these without the necessary experience or local guides. These are difficult and sometimes dangerous to cross.
