The mountain peak of Rørnestinden is situated by the head of the Kjosen fjord. It is one of the most climbed mountains in Lyngen.
Located right near the sea, the summit of Rørnestinden offers a wonderful view of Kjosen and the Lyngenfjord despite its modest height at 1,041 meters above sea level.
It is not uncommon to see grazing reindeer on this hike.
Rørnestinden is in the heart of the Lyngen Alps. The trailhead is located by the side of the road between Lyngseidet and Kjosen.
Heading west out of Lyngseidet, there is a small parking lot on the left, about 200 meters after passing the factory at Eidebakken.
The trail is marked with red markers.
From the parking lot, head over the small bridge and continue on the trail through the forest.
The dirt trail roughly follows the Gjerdelva river south and then west up to the peak of Gjerdaksla. At this point the trail flattens out a little on the way towards the final incline.
At the base of Rørnestinden, the path turns north before continuing west up to the peak. The path up Rørnestinden is made of small stones and scree.
It’s possible to begin further east by the Lyngenfjord and hike a longer route via Skihytta and Rørneshytta Cabins.
It’s possible to stay at the Rørneshytta cabin southeast of the peak. Find more information on Visit Lyngenfjord.
