The small peak Dyrtjørnhøi is one of the highest peaks of the calm mountains of Refjellet just east of Jotunheimen National Park. From the top, you will have wonderful views of Murudalen in the east, and Sjoadalen all the mountains of Jotunheimen National Park in the west.

The terrain down from the peak offers a smooth landscape with lots of options for easy skiing.

Veibeskrivelse

Car
From Oslo, the drive to Hindsetær takes about 4.5 hours. Start by taking road E6 towards Trondheim. Drive all the way up to Sjoa before you head into Heidal on road 257. Take a left at road 51 towards Beitostølen when you reach Randsverk. Drive another 15 kilometers until you reach Hindseter Hotel.

During summer you can also access Hindsetær from Fagernes across Valdresflya. Valdresflya is the stretch between Bygdin and Gjende on road 51, and it is usually closed from December to April. You can see the road status at Vegvesen.no or you can call for road updates (in English): +47 815 48 991.

Public transport
From Oslo, take the NOR-WAY 161 Valdresekspressen route to the stop "Hindseter". Note that this bus route only operates during summer.

Turbeskrivelse

Head east from the hotel following the signs for "Snowshoe track". The first 20 meters the track follows in parallel to the cross-country track, then it turns right to cross the road in a more direct steep route through the forest, before it hits the cross-country track again. The snowshoe trail follows the cross-country trail over the Stuttgongen bridge, and 300 meters south along the Sjoa river before it takes a separate direct route upwards again, well marked.

Continue on the trail on the forest road, then pass the old farm Gammelsæter and head upwards through the forest. As soon as you pass the tree line, there is a nice view over the north part of the valley with the river Sjoa and its meanders. You can still follow the marked snowshoe trail until you enter the wider landscape between the peaks of Refjellet and Dyrtjørnhøi is getting visible.

Continue past the Tjønnosen Lake before you start the ascent to Dyrtjørnhøi.
