Car
From Oslo, the drive to Hindsetær takes about 4.5 hours. Start by taking road E6 towards Trondheim. Drive all the way up to Sjoa before you head into Heidal on road 257. Take a left at road 51 towards Beitostølen when you reach Randsverk. Drive another 15 kilometers until you reach Hindseter Hotel.

During summer you can also access Hindsetær from Fagernes across Valdresflya. Valdresflya is the stretch between Bygdin and Gjende on road 51, and it is usually closed from December to April. You can see the road status at Vegvesen.no or you can call for road updates (in English): +47 815 48 991.

Public transport
From Oslo, take the NOR-WAY 161 Valdresekspressen route to the stop "Hindseter". Note that this bus route only operates during summer.

Turbeskrivelse

Head west from the hotel and follow the marked signs of the snowshoe trails. The trail crosses the main road 50 meter south of the hotel and leads directly to the river passing a summer farm. From the farm, the snowshoe trail goes in parallel to the cross-country track for a few hundred meters.

The cross-country track is now heading into some pasture lands and you need to instead follow the blue bamboo sticks and stick to the snowshoe trail which continues along the river.

The trail passes some small holiday cabins before it turns north away from the river and crosses the main road again. From here the trail leads upwards first through pine, then birch forest.

After ascending a bit more and you will find yourself in an open rolling winter landscape with small valleys, rocks, big snow banks and a fantastic view over the valley. The trail leads you through this landscape back to your starting point, a small descend through the forest and you are back at the hotel.
