Visit Senja's third highest peak
- Destinasjon: Senja

- Vanskelighetsgrad: Krevende
- Lengde: 5.2 kilometer (tur/retur)
- Stigning: 790 meter

Kvænan is a characteristic mountain with three pinnacle peaks on the southwest side of Senja island. It is Senja’s third highest peak and is situated on the Atlantic Ocean, so you will surely get some great views from the top.
You can start this adventure from both ends of the tunnel on the road leading to Flakstadvåg. If you decide to park on the north end of the tunnel, then you need to park in the small alcove on the side of the road at last turn before the tunnel opening. On the south side, there is a small parking where the tunnel starts.
There is no bus stop close to the trailhead, so arriving there by car is your best option.
Your best option is to go from the south side of the tunnel so that is the trail we will describe here. From the parking lot you will see a sign for the start of the trail at the other side of the road. At the beginning of the hike, a birch tree forest surrounds you, but you will quickly leave that behind and soon have mountains all around you. The terrain becomes more and more rocky, the higher altitude you reach. Make sure you have some sturdy boots.
Once you reach the ridge, you will follow it all the way to the main peak. There is a small section along the way where you need to go down and then up again. This section has lots of loose rocks, and a very steep incline and decline, so be very careful.
- Water is hard to find on this adventure, so make sure you bring enough to last the entire trip.
- Sturdy boots as there is lots of loose rocks.
