Explore the Sjodals area's nature and cultural history, while hiking along this birch and pine forested trail in the middle of Sjoa valley nature reserve “Stuttgonglia”. Throughout the route, there are 15 information boards about the surrounding nature and cultural history. About halfway down the trail, there is a picnic spot, with a nice view. On the way back, you will walk past some 400-year-old pine trees, well worth a look. The hike is also suitable for children.
The path it easily accessible with parking alongside road 51.
If traveling from the south, head over Valdresflya and continue down past Besstrond Camping on Road 51 continue north for about 5 minutes or 5 km. Public parking for Hulderstigen is on the right side of the road.
If coming from the south either from Vågå or Sjoa, the road intersects at Randsverk and follows Sjoa river. When passing Hindsæter Hotel, the parking is just 4 km from there on the left side of the road.
The hike begins when you cross the bridge, which is visible from the parking lot/ side of the road. Hulderstigen is an easy hike through the forest, alongside swamps, small creeks, and ponds. You will mostly walk on the soft forest trail and some wooden footbridges.
After heavy periods of rain, you might need to take your boots off to cross the creaks, as the water overflows the footbridges.
Hindsæter is a historic hotel, that recently was renovated and is located near many trails. Make sure to try the local reindeer served at dinner and spend time in the sauna.
