Om Brekkedammen at Frysja
Brekkedammen at Frysja is located at the upper and calmest part of the Akerselva River. Just several hundred meters upstream is Maridalsvannet, where the majority of Oslo residents get drinking water, which is why this area is the known as the cleanest swimming area. There are lots of grassy areas to set up a picnic or your bathing towels as well as numerous coves that make great entry points into the water. If you prefer less populated areas, go further upstream. Make sure to keep an eye open for the diverse species of birds who live in the area as well as beavers swimming.
There are fantastic running trails around the river and swimming area and are often used by people training for races. There are also several old buildings that were turned into the Frysja Art Center and is the studio to many artists. Every April the center is open to the public during Oslo Open. Visit The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology too, which is located a little upstream.
Take bus 25, 'Lørenskog stasjon' or bus 54, 'Kjelsås stasjon' and get off at 'Stillatorvet'. There is a path into the forest leading you to the swimming area right off the road. Or take tram 12, 'Kjelsås' to the last stop or train L3/R30/R30X to 'Kjelsås'. Then walk about 5 minutes along the main road, until you see a path leading into the forest near the water.
If traveling via car, there is a parking lot in front of the 'Frysja kunstnersenter'.
