Om Kjeåsen fjellgard
An intense scramble up the mountainside takes you to this picturesque mountain farm. Perched 530 meters high above the Simadalsfjord near Eidfjord, both the hike and the farm offer stunning views. The tough trail makes use of ropes, logs, and ladders to help get you to the top.
Note that if the hike seems a bit intense, it is possible to drive up to the farm, albeit through a very narrow tunnel with no light that might be even more intense than the hike.
Veibeskrivelse
The trailhead is by the Sima Power Station (Sima Kraftstasjon), 6.5 kilometers from Eidfjord at the western endpoint of Norwegian Scenic Route Hardangervidda.
From Eidfjord, follow Simadalsvegen northeast along the fjord. Turn left after almost 6 kilometers, looking for the sign to Sima Kraftstasjon.
Follow this road almost to the end, parking in the lot on the left-hand side.
Turbeskrivelse
The trail is a very steep climb up the mountainside, gaining 530 meters in elevation over a short distance. There are ropes, ladders and some scrambling required.
Walk past the picnic benches towards the fjord and continue along the dirt road around the fjord. The road turns into a narrow trail until you reach the starting point of the ascent. From here you’ll start climbing almost straight up, using the constructed aids to help you reach the top.
