Challenge yourself with a hike to Reinaknuten, the towering peak across the bay from Stavanger. The 5-hour round-trip hike will provide incredible views of the surrounding peaks, lakes, and ocean.
Car & Ferry
From Stavanger, take the ferry from the Fiskepirterminal to Tau. The schedule for the ferry departures can be found here. From Tau, follow Rv13 (Ryfylkevegen) for 8 kilometers until you turn right onto Leitevegen road. Follow Leitevegen for 3.4 kilometers until you turn left onto an unnamed gravel road. There is a small sign directing you towards Reinaknuten. Follow the road for another kilometer until you reach the parking lot.
The hike to Reinaknuten will take you through a variety of terrain as you climb up to the 787-meter tall peak. The trail begins at the parking lot and takes you northeast up the hill into the pine forest. After 2.5 kilometers, you will start climbing a steep section but will flatten out after 500 meters or so. The final climb to the peak is short but it will take you nearly straight uphill.
At the top, enjoy the views of the surrounding landscape. Below the mountain to the north is Tysdalsvatnet lake with the mountains, Holtaheia (558 meters above sea level) and Lauvåsen (648 meters above sea level) towering above on the opposite side. To the west is Bjørheimsvatnet lake and further out in the distance is the ocean. The towering mountain to the south is Heiahornet (774 meters above sea level) and to the east is Husaheia (745 meters above sea level).
- Reinarknuten and the other surrounding mountains were important landmarks for sailors back in the olden days.
