Om Bynuten

Hike to the tallest peak in Sandnes, towering 670 meters above sea level. Enjoy the magnificent views of the surrounding mountains and fjord.

From Stavanger, head south on E39 for 20 kilometers. Take a left onto Espelandsveien towards Høle and Sviland. After 4 kilometers, take a right onto Søredalen and drive for 13.5 kilometers until you reach the free parking lot for Bynuten on the righthand side of the road.

From the parking lot, follow the dirt road, Lysevegen, east for about a half an hour. Continue east to past a small pond towards another pond, Storatjørn. Stay on the northeastern side of the ponds where the trails are better. Keep hiking southeast and under the southern face of Bynuten. Start climbing up the hill and turn northwest along the ridgeline to the peak.

On the return trip, you can either hike along the same route or you can head northeast down from the top of the peak. At the bottom of the mountain, take a hard turn left and hike west under the northern side of the mountain. Continue hiking in this direction until you reach the dirt road, Lysevegen, which will take you back to the parking lot.

  • Combine the hiking tour to Bynuten with a trip up to Selvikstakken, where you will get the best view over Lysefjorden.
  • Bring your swimming suit and even a fishing pole. Storatjørn pond is a great place to relax, enjoy a swim, or catch a fish.

  • Free parking
