Om Kvigtinden
Kvigtinden reaches 1699 meters above sea level and towers above Børgefjell National Park. The peak and Børgefjell National Park is located west of the Swedish border and east of the main road E6. If you visit Helgeland and fancy a great peak in the inland of this area, then Kvigtinden should be on the very top of your list.
The hike is hard and long so only attempt this peak if you are an experienced hiker. Also, the weather needs to be very good when hiking this peak.
If possible spend some nights in Børgefjell National Park. Simskardhytta is open for all hikers and staying there is free. The cabin has 4 beds, an outhouse and a gas stove for cooking. Staying here is going to make it much easier to climb Kvigtinden as it saves you about 3 km of hiking from the parking lot.
Veibeskrivelse
The trailhead is located in Simskardet not far off road E6 going between Trondheim and Bodø. Driving to Simskardet from Trondheim takes 5 hours and from Bodø 6 hours, so you probably want to start a bit closer. From Brønnøysund along the coast, the drive is a little more than 2 hours.
From road E6 take the road eastwards towards Øvre Fiplingvatnet lake about 5.5 km north of Majavatn. Look for a yellow sign towards Fiplingdal and you will find the right road. Follow this road for 12 km, passing Øvre Fiplingvatnet lake on your right-hand side. Now take a right at the sign "Børgefjell" and follow this gravel road for 2.2 km until you take a right at the sign "Børgefjell nasjonalpark". Drive another 3 km and you will see the parking lot on your right-hand side.
Turbeskrivelse
From the parking lot follow the trail towards Simskardhytta. From Simskardhytta there are little or no trails all the way up to the peak. Follow the river through Bisseggskardet before reaching Vestre Måsskardvatnet lake. You will need to cross the river here and this can be a bit difficult if there is a lot of water.
From Vestre Måsskardvatnet lake follow the ridge up towards the peak. You will have the glacier on your left-hand side as you climb up to the peak.
