Om Skageflå Mountain Farm
Skageflå is a remote mountain farm overlooking the Seven Sisters in the UNESCO listed Geirangerfjord. It is quite possibly one of the most scenic places you will ever visit. This hiking trail travels along Geirangerfjorden and back to Geiranger. Experience the fjord from up above and gain unique insights into how people have lived in this area for hundreds of years.
The trail starts in Skagehola right by Geirangerfjorden. You need to take a boat from the harbor in Geiranger to get to Skagahola. The boat cruise in Geirangerfjorden (costs about 300 NOK) drops you off at Skagehola after around an hour. From 1st of May to mid-September the boat leaves daily from Geiranger. From November to March the boat does not operate.
Starting in Skagehola hike along the small path that winds its way up to the historical farm 250 meters above the fjord on a cliff's edge. From there the trail continues all the way back to Geiranger via Homlong and Homlongsetra. On the way up to Homlongsetra at 550 meters above the fjord, it can get quite steep at times, but the trail has been secured with ropes at the most crucial points, so it is safe and also suitable for children. From Homlongsetra it’s a long and steady downhill hike to Homlong and Geiranger.
- You can do the hike in reverse by starting in Homlong and then taking the cruise back to Geiranger, or hike both ways
- The only good water source is a running creek at Homlongsetre, so bring plenty of water
Geiranger offers multiple options for an overnight stay. Choose between hotels like Hotel Geiranger and Hotel Utsikten, or go for cheaper options like Geiranger Camping or Vinje Camping. There are also a very small selection of Airbnbs available.
