Om Ulriken

Ulriken is the highest of the 7 mountains surrounding the city of Bergen. A cable car also goes to the top, where you will have a full 360-degree view, with no other mountains obstructing the view. Here, you will also understand why locals use the 7 mountains as a destination as much as possible, especially when the sun is shining.

The hike can be done year around. If it is snowy weather go later in the day so that you have tracks to follow. There are some steep areas that require you to wedge in between rocks, but it is not too challenging! Ulriken is exposed above the tree-line at 643 moh, so it can get pretty cold and windy. You should wear a windproof and waterproof jacket that can keep you warm and dry. The weather changes quickly here on the coast, so check the weather forecast before you go.

Upon reaching the top by foot or cable car, use the free telescopes to enhance your view. We suggest checking out Sky:Skraperen restaurant and coffee bar, located at the top! The Norwegian record producer and DJ, Alan Walker featured Ulriken in his music video, Alone.

Trail Description

There are many trail options for reaching the top of Ulriken. You can start from either the base of the Ulriken Cable Car or Bergen Hostel Montana. We suggest starting your hike at the parking lot Bergen Hostel Montana. Follow the gravel road over the hill until it dead ends where you will have two trail options. We suggest taking the path behind the bench and to the right because it is a bit more challenging. The other and more popular path is directly behind the bench. Despite the challenge difference, the paths are about the same length. You will see views of the city and fjord almost the entire trip.
