Taste some local specialties in this mountain café
- Destinasjon: Geilo
- Sesong: februar–oktober
Prestholtseter is a mountain café located at the foot of the Hallingskarvet mountains. Originally built in 1904 as a summer farm, the café is the starting point for the popular Prestholtrunden hike and is a popular destination for both hikers and skiers.
The café serves a selection of hot and cold food and drinks including waffles, buns, cakes and soft potato bread, a local specialty called lefsekling. In the summer Prestholtseter is known for their sour cream porridge (rømmegrøt) and cured meats.
The opening hours of the café can vary. To avoid disappointment, check with locals in Geilo or visit the Prestholtseter Facebook page.
From July it is possible to drive to Prestholtseter, about 10 km from Geilo. From Rv 7, turn on to Nye Havsdalsvegen by the Geilohallen sports center. After around 2 km, turn on to Havsdalsvegen road. This road is a toll road, so have some coins handy.
It's also possible to walk to Prestholtseter from Geilo. Follow the trail to Geilohovda (Pilvegen) and then continue west past Gullsteinhovda and Urundberget. In the winter there are cross-country skiing trails from Geilo and Ustaoset.
