Om Slettmarkpiggen

Slettmarkpiggen, located at 2,164 meters above sea level, is a stunning mountain with a sharp summit. The trip is a fun hike through beautiful nature with a little scrambling. The top is on the border of two municipalities in Oppland: Lom and Vang.

The trail begins near Bygdin Lake, on the outskirts of Jotunheim National Park, in the southern area of the Jotunheimen mountain range.

Turbeskrivelse

Starting from Eidsbugarden Hotel, follow the red T-marked trail towards Gjendebu Mountain Lodge. At the junction northeast of Høystakktjernet, take the trail towards Torfinnsbu Cabin. The trail's terrain is rather easy, as it rises inward towards the Uksedalen Valley.

Soon, you'll see a stream that flows down from Slettmarkkampen, that you'll cross before hiking uphill on the gravel ridge on either the south or north side of the stream. The terrain is then rather steep, with lots of grasses and flowers surrounding the trail, before leveling out. It continues easily over a rock formation with possible patches of snow along the gravel trail.

From the top of Slettmarkkampen, there are magnificent views in all directions. The summit is marked by a cairn, a mound of stones that act as the summit. Hike 100 meters to the south of the cairn before heading down a diagonal shelf with some scrambling. Here, some ropes may come in handy if it's wet. Multiple cairns continue to lead the way.

It's an easy way up to the top of Slettmarkpiggen. Return over Gravafjellet mountain or hike back down Uksedalen to the T-marked trail Eidsbugarden-Gjendebu. Proceed on the unmarked trail north of Grønebergtjernet. You will then arrive at a well-kept path past Gravarfjellet to Fondsbu/Eidsbugarden.
