There is one thing everyone in Skjåk knows - and that it is the driest region in the country. The explanation is quite simple: The east of Norway does not normally receive as much rainfall as the north, west and south due to the higher mountains in those regions. This also means that there is a lot of great snow nearby in the winters and sunny days in the summer.
Since the village has more stable climate in both summer and winter – more and more Norwegians from Western Norway have started using the mountains around Skjåk. It’s a popular cabin area and weekend getaway spot great for camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and skiing.
