Risøya

Padleled Vestfold is a network of paddling routes located along the coastline of Vestfold county from Svelvik, in the north, to Larvik, in the south.

On the northside of the Risøya peninsula, near Stavern, you find Nordstranda, a great starting point for paddling trips around Stavern. It is a beautiful artipelago with areas for both swimming and hiking. There is a vibrant energy in Stavern in the summer and exploring the town goes well with a paddle trip in the area. A visit to Vestfold’s oldest fortress, Citadellet, and the culturally significant Stavernsodden Lighthouse is a trip worthy of exploring.

In Stavern, you can also see and experience the Fredriksvern shipyard and visit the Minnehallen national memorial which honors the fallen Norwegian seamen from the first and second world wars. Stavern is one of Norway’s most exciting summer cities with a variety of art and cultural experiences.

At Risøya, you will nearly reach the beach by car, so it makes it convenient to carry equipment and kayaks. At the parking lot, you are able to leave your car for up to 36 hours. We recommend bringing water with you although there is fresh water available in the public restrooms near the parking area. Groceries and other necessities can be bought in Stavern center before you reach Risøya.
