Ølbergholmen: Padleled Vestfold

Padleled Vestfold is a paddling route along the coastline of Vestfold county from Svelvik in the north to Larvik in the south.

Viksfjorden's location, between the open sea and the slender peninsula, has a large variety of nature. While the coast is full of beaches and islets, the inner part of the fjord is lush with wooded hills. In Viksfjord you can paddle out into the open sea or around the small sheltered islets.

The area around Viksfjord is historically important. The market at Skiringssal was a trading post located at Kaupangkilen, on the northwestern side of Viksfjord, and considered one of Norway's first cities. It is assumed that in the 800s, 400-600 people lived here.

It is 600 meters from the parking lot down the path to Ølbergholmen beach, so it is necessary to have a kayak trailer to help transport the equipment. Another alternative is to carry the kayaks from the parking lot to the beach at Rønningen Camping, which is just north of the parking lot. Unfortunately, there is no freshwater available, but there are public toilets at Ølbergholmen. The nearest grocery store is in Hem and Tjølling center.
