Dølavegen was the road for the people of Vassfaring to cross the mountains to the Hedals church. Here they went to church for baptisms and confirmations, and here they carried their dead over the mountain. It was probably also the way to the store or to other things that had to be arranged. It goes from Vassfarplassen over the mountains to Fledda and down into Hedalen.
The trail goes over the mountain from Vassfarplassen to Fledda. The walk along Dølavegen takes you through forests and over mountains, along rivers and water. It overlooks Vassfaret on one side, and once you get over the mountain you see beautifully towards the farms in Hedalen.
Dølavegen (trail) starts slightly above the highest house in Vassfarplassen. The trail is not marked. From Vassfarplassen it goes steeply uphill to Fjellvatnet, then along Fjellvatnet and across the mountains by Storausttjenr and down to Fledda. The trail is marked down to parking by Halfast in Fledda. There is a road down to Hedalen church (toll). The trip is easier to go from Hedalen to Vassfaret, then it's just a gentle incline from Fledda until one is up on the bare mountain.
Getting there: From E16 at Nes at the north end of Sperillen, take Fv 243 towards Hedalen. After about 15 km turn left towards Vassfaret and follow Vassfarvegen 18 km to Nevlingsdammen. Park your car without being a nuisance to others and go on foot along Nevlingen to Vassfarplassen which is the starting point for Dølavegen.
