This is an easy and simple trip to a peak with glorious views. It is said that you can see seven churches from the top, and with good binoculars maybe you can?
From E-16, take the toll road at the sign for "Hugakøllen". Up on the road's highest point, a road takes to the left, but you drive on straight ahead towards Hugastølen until you've run across the creek Ala with parking right on the other side. Here you start walking. Signs, markings and a clear path make it very easy.
You'll walk right past the summer farm of old Øylo Guesthouse. Just by the summer farm houses the trail makes a turn southwards around a hill. On the backside of the hill you will find a sign showing the way to Alasteinene, some huge boulders which the ice probably has left there. The detour over there only takes about 10 minutes.
After taking off from the mountain farm road towards Kvam, it becomes steeper, but it is still easy enough for both children and elderly. On top, you can enjoy the view in all directions. You see many local peaks with Jotunheimens alpine peaks in the background to the north. Beneath you almost all sides are lined with farms and hamlets, so with binoculars, you can control what people are doing down there.
