Blåmanen is one of the seven mountains that surround the city of Bergen. This particular route to Blåmanen is a true gem because it takes you through the diverse landscape and gives you great views of the city, mountains, and water without being surrounded by tourists or anyone for that matter!
The trail varies in elevation, however, the slopes are not very steep. The trail starts in a sheltered pine forest, as you gain elevation there are more views including of the nearby mountain, Ulriken . The winds are pretty cold upon reaching Blåmanen, so make sure you dress in layers. Lake Skomakerdiket and Lake Store Tindevatnet are perfect places to take a break.
The trip can be hiked all year round, even in snowy weather, as it does not snow too much on the coast.
Take the Fløibanen cable car. There’s nothing else like this cable car in the entire country, plus it is the easiest way to access Fløyen. The station is located 150 meters from Fisketorget, the fish market, and Bryggen wharf on Vetrlidsallmenningen. The total journey takes about 5 to 8 minutes. Check here for prices and departures.
The signs are very good on this trail. The trip begins at Fløyen amongst the many tourists. Head towards Skomakerdiket, where you will be surrounded by lush forest and soon forget about the crowds. Continue to Fjellhytten and then to Blåmannen, which is about 30 minutes into the hike. It is here above the tree line, that you can see all the other mountains, sea, and beyond. You will continue towards Rundemanen and the path to Lake Store Tindevatnet, and finally return to the viewpoint and cable car at Fløyen.
