About Rondvassbu to Dørålseter
dThis route is stage 2 of the full Rondane Triangle hike. Stage 3 is from #dø
From Rondvassbu you can take the ferry across Rondvatnet. This narrow lake is really fun to cross with a boat as the lake is cut into the mountain with steep rock walls on both sides. The boat leaves Rondvassbu at 0900 and costs 120 NOK for adults. Getting to the northern end of the lake takes about 15 minutes.
From the northern end of Rondvatnet continue on the marked trail going north towards Dørålseter. After 2 km you will reach the trail junction with trails going to Bjørnhollia as well as to your destination Dørålseter. Take a left at this junction.
From the junction follow the marked trail on the east side of the Bergedalsbekken creek and down to the Døråe river. You will gradually see more and more vegetation as you get closer to your destination. Continue east along the southern side of the river until you reach a new trail junction.
Take left in this junction too and soon after you will cross the river before you head up to Dørålseter.
Instead of taking the 15-minute boat ride you can take the trail on the western side of the lake across Rondhalsen. From Rondvassbu go south about 100 meters, cross the river and then follow the trail up along the lake. Add about 2 hours to the hike if you choose this option.
You probably want to be a member of the Norwegian Trekking Association when doing this hike as it will give you much better prices at the cabins along the route.
- Toilets can be found only at Rondvassbu and Dørålseter
Where to stay
Dørålseter at the end of this stage hike consists of two different cabins, Nedre Dørålseter and Øvre Dørålseter. Nedre has about 30 beds and Øvre has about 100 beds. Øvre Dørålseter is marginally cheaper than Nedre Dørålseter, but expect to pay about 1000 NOK for one bed, a shower, a three meal dinner and breakfast. Included in this price is also the option to make a lunch to bring along on the hike the next day.
