About Dønnamannen

There are fantastic views from the top of Dønnamannen, of not only The Seven Sisters Vega, Tréna, Lovund, but also the beautiful Helgeland coastal line. It's a demanding hike that should only be accessed by those who have solid previous hiking experience.

Getting there

North Side

From Søvik take ferry 18-171 towards Herøy, Brasøy. Then across the Åkviksundet Bridge that connects Herøy to Dønna. Continue driving on Road 828. The coordinates for where the parking lot is located are 66.041145, 12.338573.

South Side

From Sandnessjøen take ferry 18-181 towards Dønna, and get off at Bjørn (Dønna). It's about 8 km on Road 828 to the parking lot at Teistadvika. Use 177 Nordland to plan your ferry journey.

Trail description

There are a total of three options for hiking trail options for accessing the summit.

North Side

This route begins near Einvik (Hagen) at the ravine. The first 2km of the trail is along the fjord before it reaches about 400 meters above sea level. That is when you turn left at the intersection and continue up the mountain. This part of the hike can be particularly challenging due to lots of rocks. Be extremely careful when the rocks are wet. It's also important to note that fog is common, and can make it difficult to see. So, stick to the trail to avoid falling rocks and other obstacles.

South Side (As of July 2018 the trail is closed due to avalanches)

This route is considered the easiest of the options. From the parking lot at Teistadvika, follow the red "T" signposts to the top. Some areas are particularly steep, but overall it's a good quality trail. Make sure to take a break at the top to enjoy the great views!

This is a challenging hike, and it is not good for children on their first mountain hike.
