This loop trail takes you up to the mountains surrounding Høvringen and makes sure you get a good view of the Høvringen area and the Rondane mountains. The loop goes to two different peaks, Anaripigg and Karihaugen, where Karihaugen is the highest peak at 1450 m.a.s.l.
You can optionally shorten this hike by just going out and back to Anaripigg.
While driving along the main road E6 in the Gudbrandsdalen valley look for the sign to Høvringen about a 15-minute drive north of Otta. From the main road, there is a 6 km drive up to a fork in the road just before you reach Høvringen. Bear right at this junction and continue on for one more kilometer. You will see the sign for Putten Seter and shortly after the parking lot(paid parking) on your right-hand side.
Start at the car park at Ivars Plass. Follow the gravel road down to where the main road and Puttenvegen road intersects. The path to Anaripigg, marked in blue, starts from the junction and leads west through the area of cabins at Roa. Follow the path about 1 km past the cabin area.
There’s a gentle incline and you come to a crossroads where the path goes east towards Anaripigg. From where the trails cross it’s about 800 meters to the top. Follow the blue-marked trail about 800 meters between Anaripigg and Karihaugen. Continue along the blue-marked trail down towards Høvringen - you’ll pass Anarivatn lake on the way.
No matter if it is sunny or cloudy, the winds are strong on this mountain so make sure you wear layers.
- There is a small grocery store at Høvringen, but beware that it is not open every day
