About Tunga Bridge

Tunga Bridge is a suspension bridge over Numedalslågen, just before the river joins Heinelvi and flows into Ossøen lake. The hike is easy, about 1.5 kilometers from the parking area to the suspension bridge. Some short, steep slopes, but can be hiked even with small children. Start at the parking lot at the border of the Hardangervidda National Park. Here it is an information board with map and it is signposted from various routes. Select the path on the right side of the sign, the Solheimstulen. The tour starts by crossing a couple of bridges, during the summer it is possible to swim here, but in the spring flood is too cold and the river runs too coarse. Here the trail goes up a small hill - look for the catch pit on the right side. Then follow the T-marked path on Låglitunga and along the river. As long as you follow the main trail the path is safe, but there are smaller paths along the edge of the river, so make sure your children remain where they should. Numedalslågen is just a large and roaring along the trail and after walking about 500 meters you can see the suspension bridge. Follow the path and it is easy to find. The suspension bridge is exciting to cross where it hangs and rocks over the gorge and waterfall. In the spring flood is water splashing high and you might get a small shower. Here you can turn around and go back or continue on routes towards Kolsfet / Torsetlia (22 km) or the Solheimstulen (20 km) if you want a longer trip. Remember to close all gates, here it goes much sheep grazing in the summer! In late August / early September, one can not use the car park as it is full of trailers that are used to gather sheeps. Access: Dirt road, about 20 km from Dagali Bru. Nice for both car and bicycles. Turn towards Seterdalen valley, there are signs for Ossjøen and Åan. The road runs along Numedalslågen river, facing the river and it's large rapids. If you're lucky you'll see some rafting boats on the road. There are good opportunities for fishing in Lågen and Ossjøen - but remember to buy a fishing license! The road is a toll road; 70 NOK cash has to be paid in a baox where the road starts (2016).
