Svartdalen is an experience you will not find anywhere else. You can sense it already when you disembark at Torfinnsbu. The tourist lodge is beautifully situated in the green grass, and upwards into the Torfinndalen valley are grassy hills with beautiful summer flowers that make you feel at ease. The entrance to the valley to the west is guarded by Torfinnstindane, which almost seems threatening, rising steeply into the sky in blue-black gabbro. Further in, the Torfinndalen valley gets flatter. It's easy to walk. Eventually you get to stone meadows past the first lake and the valley changes names to Svartdalen. On the way through, you pass 16 peaks above 2,000 meters. At the top of the valley towards Gjende is the wonderful view down the green Gjende and the tourist lodge Gjendebu. The descent goes on slab rock for some parts, and you must be careful if the mountain is wet. In rain the descent can be very challenging. At the bottom there is a pleasant walk over the delta and over to the tourist lodge and the pier.
Rv 51 to Bygdin, where you park your car. The boat on Bygdin is coordinated with the return in boat on Gjende and bus back to Bygdin, if you want to do the trip on the same day. Otherwise, it's nice to stay at Gjendebu and take other trips once there.
