About Svarthøtta

Svarthøtta is the very middle of the Trollheimen mountain range, where the borders between three counties meet: Oppdal, Rennebu, and Rindal. The view is a breathtaking panorama over the majority of the Trollheimen mountain range. The top of the mountain is a fantastic place to watch the sunset. The weather is usually very comfortable, which will make your trip enjoyable.

Getting There

From the Oppdal town center drive 7 km west on Road 70. Exit at Vognill and continue north along Fylkesveien 512/Nerskogsveien. Right after the county border Oppdal-Rennebu you’ll turn into Søråsveien. Follow this road about 1 km until the parking lot at Sørøyåsen.

Trail Description

The trip starts by following the ski tracks towards Minnilldalsmyran. Turn off the tracks at Gråbekken. Continue up the ridge to Søndre and Nordre Kjølen. Then you’ll travel between the two valleys. From there you’ll need to go down a bit again before reaching the relatively steep northeast ridge, and after that, you’ll be on the north ridge to Svarthøtta.
