7.9 kilometers (out‑and‑back)
Storgruvpiken is the highest peak surrounding Skarvatnet. Despite that, it is still an easily accessible peak suitable for the entire family.
The starting point is the parking lot at Skaret. Follow Nerskogsveien (Fylkesveien 512) north about 100 metres until the second exit on the right. Continue up a gravel cabin road until the end. From here there is a marked trail.
The trail goes up toward the birch filled hillside, but it doesn’t take long until you’ve crossed the tree line, headed into the alpine and Skardalen comes to view.
The obvious marked trail ends at Grøtbekken. The terrain also flattens out at this point. Remember the plastic pole along the path here. It serves as a guide for when you will be going back down again.
From Grøtbekken it is an easy climb toward the top and the terrain is easy to manage. Head to the top and don’t change your direction. Enjoy the view towards Svartjønna and Brattskarven in the east. In the west you’ll see Trollheimen and in the south you’ll catch a glimpse of Snøhetta.
Estimated trip duration is for a roundtrip.
