About Odde bridge

There aren’t many places in Norway where you will find a bridge built from an illustration from 1794. It’s quite a feat!

In 2014, Oddebrui or ‘Odde Bridge’ was refurbished with new wood, built in the same way as 200 years ago. Transportation minister, General Hammer had a thorough and detailed account from 1794 of how the King’s Road Bridge should be built. Among other things, the bridge should have solid support beams framing the bridge, tight floorboards and high railings. Both ends of the bridge were to have beams with wooden spear tops. It was also instructed that the King's monogram, name of the bridge, contractor and construction year be elaborately presented.
