About Djevelporten and Fløya

The trailhead for this spectacular hike is just minutes from downtown Svolvær in Lofoten. In only two hours, you'll conquer more than a 600-meter altitude increase.

The first destination, Djevelporten (Devil's gate), is a rock that's wedged between Frosken and Fløya. The rock looks somewhat like a bridge, and you can even stand on it, but be careful! Here you can see the famous Svolværgeita mountain from a different angle, as well as Svolvær, Austnesfjorden, Oddvær, and Storemolla.

From Fløya, located at 590 meters above sea level, you have a slightly better view of what can be seen from Djevelporten.

Getting there

It's a five-minute drive from the city center of Svolvær.

Take Svolværveien/E10 northwest, and then take a sharp left onto Øvreværveien.  You can park at the church, Svolvær Kapell, or the schoolyard, Svolvaer kindergarten.

Trail description

This is a very well-marked and well-used popular trail that is quite vertical! From the start, you'll be hiking up a very steep hill and rocks--there are chains and ropes to assist you. Upon passing the vertical rock area, you'll then reach a patch of the mountain that's often very muddy.

At Djevelporten you can continue hiking to Fløya or take a small detour to also summit Frosken, and then continue hiking on to Fløya. The trail to Fløya follows a narrow ridge, so be very aware of your footing in this area. Summiting the peak of Fløya requires some intense scrambling and climbing, but the top provides an awesome view. From there it is recommended to descend on the northern ridge, as it is less steep than the western ridge

If you choose not to summit Fløya, that's okay too! Instead of summiting, you can hike on the trail that goes southwest and is below the summit. This viewpoint is also excellent for seeing all that is below.
