Mikkjel Fønhus' many books about Vassfaret have immortalized this area for Norwegians. It's the animal stories and the portrayal of life seen from the viewpoint of the animal itself that makes him worth a read. On this bike tour you will experience Vassfaret through a 35 kilometers long trip through this forest valley with all its water. Maybe you'll encounter moose or others of Vassfaret's rich fauna on your way. You start at 945 meters above sea level and end up at 340 meters above sea level.
Along the river you will see the remains of a centuries-old floating-history. Vassfaret is a forest valley and chopping and floating of timber has been operated here for longer than you can imagine. Vassfaret has also been a valley settlement. There were 12 residences at its peak. It was in the 1800s, that most of these places were inhabited. And as you move through the valley, can you think back 150 -200 years and imagine life in Vassfaret, and those who lived here then.
