Use your visit to Vøringsfossen Waterfall as an opportunity to explore more of the surrounding landscape. Follow a centuries old route up Måbøberget and wander along the old road that winds around the mountainside next to the modern day scenic route. Stop at the scenic viewpoints along the way and optionally add on a trip to the base of Vøringsfossen.
The museum and neighboring parking lot is on Road 7, 12 kilometers from Eidfjord.
From the parking lot, follow the trail behind the museum buildings and down along the Bjoreio River. Cross the bridge over the river and immediately begin up the centuries old trail to Måbøberget.
From the bottom the trail looks very steep, but as you start hiking you will see that it’s never too steep or exposed. As you near the top you’ll have wonderful views back down the valley.
Heading over the mountain the trail will flatten out. When you reach a fork, bear left and continue towards the road called Gjermund Høls veg. Follow this road briefly until you reach another trail which leads straight down to the Vøringsfossen Cafeteria and lookout at Fossatromma. This is a great spot to take a break and enjoy the views.
From here, simply follow the old winding road along the mountainside back towards the museum. There are several nice viewpoints and rest areas along the road. If you wish, add on a hike to the base of Vøringsfossen.
