About Hjelledalen Old Church Road
The old road through Hjelledalen is an easy stroll through the valley with steep mountains either side. From the village of Hjelle the historic tail leads along the Hjelledøla River and through farmland to Bolstad, finishing at Nygård Camping. If you are staying at Nygård Camping or Folven Camping this is a nice route to follow to Hjelle instead of walking along the main road.
The trailhead is in Hjelle, located on the eastern shore of Oppstrynsvatnet Lake, a short distance from the western endpoint of Norwegian Scenic Route Gamle Strynefjellsvegen. There is parking by the school.
From the narrow bridge towards Glomnes in Hjelle, cross towards Glomnes and then turn right along the side road. The building immediately to the left is the old schoolhouse.
The trail continues along the road by the river, and turns into a dirt trail. The trail turns into a road again and you’ll pass remnants of small farm buildings.
Follow the road through farmland, with tall mountains surrounding you. The trail ends at Nygård Camping.
- Free parking
