Løberg Hiking Trail
Take a short uphill hike for views over Lærdal
- Destination: Sognefjord
- Season: May-October
- Difficulty: Medium
- Distance: 2.5 kilometers (out‑and‑back)
- Elevation Gain: 380 meters
- Duration: 1-1.5 hours
The hike to Løberg offers views over Lærdalsøyri without too much effort. The trail leads along a river and uphill through the woods to a popular viewpoint above the the valley and the town. You can also see back up the valley as it bends to the south.
This trail is also the beginning for the much longer and more demanding hike to Torsteinen.
The trailhead is in the eastern part of Lærdalsøyri, across the Lærdalselvi River. Lærdalsøyri is at the northern end of Norwegian Scenic Route Aurlandsfjellet.
You can walk from the town center, but it will add an extra 2.5 kilometers each way to the journey.
There is a small amount of parking by the roadside next to Lærdal Hospital.
Walk along the road past the hospital and as soon as you cross the bridge over the Ofta River you’ll reach the trailhead.
The trail is clear and well-marked.
The trail begins along a dirt road, following the Ofta River upstream through a residential area. After passing the last house the trail leaves the river and zig-zags up through the woods.
At Øvre Vangen (175 meters elevation) you will find a small clearing that already offers nice views over Lærdal. The trail continues to wind up the hill until you arrive at Løberg, marked with a sign.
From here it’s just 50 meters to the viewpoint at Løberghaugen, with an elevation of 375 meters.
- Free parking (very limited spaces)
