About Vigdel Beach to Borestranda Beach

Jæren’s beaches come in all sizes and this hike visits a mixed bag of sandy treats. Starting at the small Vigdel Beach, this trail winds around a hilly point before traveling the length of Hellestøstranda Beach, past the colorful Sele Harbor, and finishing at Borestranda Beach. Throughout the entire journey Feistein Lighthouse lingers in your sight off the coast.

If you’re feeling extra energetic, start from Solastranda Beach and hike via Ølberg Beach to Vigdel Beach. This would add about 3.5 kilometers to the one-way journey.

Getting there

Hiking this trail is easiest with two cars unless you want to hike back again. Park one car at Borestranda Beach and then drive the other to Vigdel to start the hike. Both beaches are just beyond the northern end of Norwegian Scenic Route Jæren.

Driving along Road 510 just south of Stavanger Airport, follow the signs to Vigdel along Vigdelsvegen Road. Turn off at the sign to Vigdelstranden, and drive along the narrow road for 300 meters to the parking lot.

For Borestranda Beach, follow the scenic route (Road 507) from Bore. After 1.2 kilometers, turn right and follow the road another 2.5 kilometers to the parking lot at the end.

Trail description

Head to the western end of Vigdel Beach and follow the trail away from the beach and around the coast. Track along the rocky shoreline under the small hills. Join the road by the farmhouse and follow it around to Hellestøstranda Beach.

Hike south through the dunes or along the sand for the length of the beach, about 1.3 kilometers. The sand gives way to rocks as the coast leads around to the pleasant Sele Harbor with its colorful boathouses.

From there it’s another kilometer, passing over the pretty rounded stones, to the northern tip of Borestranda Beach. Hike south along the dunes for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the path to the parking lot.
