About Hardbaken
Hamningberg is a remote, abandoned fishing village. The village is of particular significance due to the collection of intact buildings from the 1800s.
The relatively easy trail to Hardbaken takes you up above the village for views and exploring. If you’re lucky you may even spot a herd of reindeer.
Getting there
The trailhead is at the western end of Hamningberg, along Norwegian Scenic Route Varanger (Road 8100).
Once you reach Hamningberg, follow the signs left leading to the large gravel parking lot.
Trail description
From the parking lot, walk back towards the intersection where you’ll find the marked trail to your left. The trail is wide and easy to follow.
The elevation gain is steady and as you climb the trail loops around to the peak where you’ll find a large cairn. Explore the small trails and bunkers from World War II.
You can return along the same trail or use one of the small trails to head back down into Hamningberg.
Amenities
- Free parking
- Outdoor toilet by the trailhead
