- Distance: 3.7 kilometers (out‑and‑back)
- Elevation Gain: 160 meters
- Duration: 1-1.5 hours
Aldontoppen is a family-friendly and easy-going trail on the Varanger Peninsula. The peak reaches just 171 meters above sea level, but as it is somewhat isolated and right along the water’s edge, there are lovely views of the coastline.
There is a picnic bench at the peak, so this is a great hike to stretch your legs and enjoy your lunch with a view.
The trailhead is 5 kilometers east of Varangerbotn, along Norwegian Scenic Route Varanger (Road 75).
Look for a small unmarked road by a short bridge that curls up the hill. Turn here, and park in the small area on the left shortly after turning off.
The trail to Aldontoppen is clear and marked.
From the small parking area, continue walking up the gravel road towards the old football pitch.
Stay to the right along the football pitch. You will rejoin the road briefly before the trail forks off to the right.
The trail leads north, through thin woods and to the west of the peak. After passing underneath the peak, the trail turns east and wraps up to the top.
- Free parking
- Picnic bench at the top
