Located at the southern end of Norwegian Scenic Route Rondane, Muen offers tremendous views of Rondane National Park’s famous peaks. The most popular hike in this mountain range, you’ll find a clear trail and a moderate ascent of around 350 meters.
The trail to Muen begins from a parking lot by Road 27 (Norwegian Scenic Route Rondane).
Head east from the parking lot (away from the road) with Muen directly ahead of you. Follow the marked, rocky trail through typical mountain vegetation as it ascends gradually, leading to the southern side of the mountain. As the landscape becomes more bare, the trail will lead slightly past the peak before turning towards the peak and taking you up the final ascent to the top.
At the peak you’ll find cairns built by the hikers who have come before you. In the northwest you can see the peaks of Rondane. To the north lies the characteristic saddle-shaped Sølnkletten. The closer surrounding mountains to the east and south are known as Venabygdsfjellet.
- The terrain is quite rocky and sturdy hiking boots/shoes are recommended
- Free parking
